DBS stands for double broadleaf selection, a reference to the two distinct types of broadleaf incorporated into the blend, though not for the wrapper, which is a Mexican San Andrés varietal. This fast-talking, mover-and-shaker makes no apologies and needs no amends. If it had a mouth, it would speak volumes about its unique intricacies and undeniable perfections. However, this hand-rolled gem is resigned to letting its acumen speak for itself. Besides, actions speak louder than words and no action is greater than a blazing trial by fire.

EL REY DEL MUNDO

The Cuban cigar brand of El Rey Del Mundo was believed to be first created in 1848 by German businessman Emilio Ohmstedt who also created Sanch Panza cigars. After Ohmstedt’s death the Cuban cigar company was passed on to Antonio Allones sometime around 1882. El Rey Del Mundo, or ‘King of the World’ in Spanish, was at one time the most expensive and prestigious cigar brand in the world. Under Allones’ command it reached the height of its prestige. Allones’ company was later bought out by the Diaz Hermanos y Cia venture owned by Candido Vega Diaz who then later renamed themselves the Rey Del Mundo Cigar Co. To highlight their most famous asset, although other brands such as Sancho Panza, Rafael González, and Don Cándido were also produced by them.

La Galera Limited Edition

Turning 85 is a big deal, and we at Tabacalera Palma wanted to do something just as exciting to commemorate this incredible feat. When we sat down to think of ways to accurately convey what this occasion meant to us, we both decided to consult our fathers. My father revisited dozens of scribbles and stand-alone paragraphs in my grandfather’s notebooks and reexamined the tobacco growing and processing wisdom of two generations, along with the cigar manufacturing wisdom of one generation. I borrowed my father’s wisdom after bribing him with some cheap whiskey.
What resulted is a couple of American seed tobacco wrapped cigars worthy of occasions as memorable as an 85th birthday.
